Lord knows, there is literally a national holiday for just about everything. For instance, this Friday is National Drink Beer Day, and October 2nd is National Fried Scallps Day. Yes, these are serious holidays that deserve all our attention. but their time has not arrived yet. But today my friends...is National Voter Registration Day.

There are seemingly endless ways to register. In most towns, it can be done at your town office with the city / town clerk. Here in Bangor, for instance, you just show up with picture ID, and proof of your address, and BAM! you're done. You can even do it on election day right at the polls if you have to.

The most important thing though, is just simply registering to vote. I can't think of anything more important in this country we call home. It does not matter in any way what your political affiliation is. Republican, democrat, libertarian, green party.....who cares?!?! The only way to truly express your values and beliefs is to get out and vote. In every election.

In my opinion, "smaller" elections are often more important than the big ones. It's so important to vote on matters that affect you close to home. Be it bonds for road work, or education, or choosing new local elected officials. So if you're not registered here in Maine, get 'er done! Plus you know how the old saying goes....if you don't vote, you can't complain!
