Tentative Agreement in Fairpoint Strike

Union workers have reached a tentative agreement with Fairpoint officials that could end the months-long strike. If it's approved, employees would return to work next week.

Fairpoint released a statement on its website today that a tenative agreement has been reached between the company, System Council T-9 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), and the Communications Workers of America. (CWA) Employees have been on strike since October 17th, 2014.

The release states that the Company and the Unions agree that the terms of their new collective bargaining agreements, will address 'in meaningful and constructive ways,' the objectives of the parties involved, and that the new labor agreements will provide employees with wages and benefits 'that are among the best in northern New England.' It goes on to say that the agreements will also help put the company in a much more competitive position in the market.

Union members will vote on ratification of the tentative agreements as soon as possible. Once the agreements are signed, workers will return to work on Wednesday, February 25th. Fairpoint says 'further comments will be withheld until the ratification vote is complete.'
