A portion of busy Commercial Street in Portland has been shut down while police investigate a suspicious package.

UPDATE: A member of the Hazardous Devices Unit has picked up the bag and loaded it into a vehicle. Officials at the scene say that's a good sign.

Road closures are affecting Commercial Street, from Market Street to Franklin Street. Businesses in that area are being evacuated, as well. Portland Police say a suspicious package was found on the sidewalk, near the U.S. Custom House. Detours are set up at Pearl Street, Custom House Street, Commercial Street, and Franklin Street.

At around noon, the Portland Police Hazardous Devices team arrived on the scene, along with a bomb-sniffing dog.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
