Warren continued by saying the best path forward is for Platner to step aside as the Democratic nominee, allowing someone else to face incumbent Susan Collins in November.

She said the serious allegations should be addressed outside of the Senate race, adding that there is too much at stake.

Platner on Monday denied an allegation from Jenny Racicot, a former girlfriend, who said he drunkenly forced her to have sex after she told him to stop, according to Politico.

In a video posted to social media, Platner said he disputes the reporting but is taking time to consider the next steps for his campaign.
