Fire crews were on the scene of a structure fire today, in the town of Hermon. A portion of Route 2 was shut down to traffic while they battled the blaze but is now back open.

The fire heavily damaged a two-story home on Route 2. TV-5 reports one person was home but managed to get out safely. The fire displaced a family of four who are now being helped by the Red Cross.

Fire chief Ray Pipes told TV-5 that it appears the fire started in the attic. Crews were unable to reach the fire from the second floor so they cut a hole in the roof. The building was heavily damaged by fire, smoke, and water.
