Strawberry Season Is Gonna Be Way Behind This Year

Frankly, I think I'm getting tired of having to list all the ways that Mother Nature has chosen to screw us over in the last six months. From a snow storm every three days all winter, to the muddiest spring, to the rainiest start to summer in years. Not to mention all the ticks, mosquitoes, and black flies. And just to cap it off, horse flies are out now too. Ugh.

Of course, now our favorite early summer treat is being messed with too. Strawberry season is going to be quite a bit behind this year, thanks to all the cool, damp weather of spring into summer. According to WMTW-TV8, strawberry farmers are saying that this year's crop will be at least a week behind. The typical "sweet spot" is the few weeks leading up to the 4th of July.

We're butting up against July as it is. But we should be all set for berries on the 4th. Sure, you could buy the berries from away, that every grocery store has year round, but there is just nothing as sweet and delicious as a local strawberry at the peak of ripeness.

We only get to experience this joy for a precious few weeks every year, and to be tortured this way, makes me feel like Mother Nature threw us down at the poker table with nothing in her hand to back it up. She bluffed, and we lose.

Oh well. I suppose there will be fresh berries here soon enough. In the meantime, I'll just complain some more about my first-world problems.
