State Police Investigating Murder Suicide In Gardiner [UPDATE]
Maine State Police are investigating a murder-suicide in Gardiner, that they say is connected to a lakefront fire in Sidney.
Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says police found two people with gunshot wounds at a home on Fairview Street. Both people were in their 40's and were from another town in Maine. Police say the woman was found in the garage and she passed away after being rushed to MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta. The man's body was found in a pickup truck, sitting in the driveway to the residence. Police have not released the couple's identities, pending notification of next of kin, but say that they had been estranged since November. Divorce proceedings were underway.
Officials say there is a connection between the victim and a house fire Tuesday morning in Sidney, where a lakefront home burned to the ground on Messalonskee Lake. Investigators with the State Fire Marshal's Office are investigating the cause of the blaze.
