Police have released the identity of a man involved in an alleged domestic violence situation in Hermon last night.

Penobscot County Sheriff's Deputies responded after 7:00 last night to a report that a family member had assaulted two people in the residence located near Morgan Hill. They were told the man may have had firearms in the house.

A nearby dance studio was evacuated as officials surrounded the home and began to talk to the suspect. Route 2 was shut down as a precaution until the Special Response Team and Crisis Negotiators were able to engage 51-year-old Van Cushing in the driveway. He was taken into custody at around 11:30 without incident. Cushing  was taken to EMMC for an evaluation and charged with Aggravated Assault and Domestic Violence Assault. He's currently incarcerated at the Penobscot County Jail with a bail set at $20,000.
