Fire officials say one person is dead and another injured after an early morning fire in the town of Eliot.

The woman's body was found in an apartment over the garage at the house at 230 Hanscom Road. WCSH-TV reports Beverly Webber is the woman who lived in the apartment, although the remains have not yet been positively identified.

Webber's son and grandson live in the house attached to the garage. They got out of the house safely when fire broke out in the apartment just before 11:30, but the woman's son entered the garage in an attempt to save his mother. When the smoke became too much for him, he had to jump out a second story window. He was taken to a local hospital for treatment of burns and an injured hip.

Battling the fire was challenging, as there are no hydrants nearby, so water had to be trucked in. Today, investigators from the State Fire Marshal's Office will work to determine the cause of the blaze.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
