Skowhegan Area Regional Chamber of Commerce presents their Second Annual Central Maine BBQ Cook-Off Competition.
The event is this weekend at the Skowhegan Fairgrounds on Constitution Avenue.
Saturday from 7 a.m until after 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
This event is a sanctioned competition by Kansas City Barbeque Society and by the Steak Cookoff Association. They hold events throughout North America,
Competitors and judges travel all over for these events to be judged on their secret sauces and rubs on chicken, ribs, steak, and pork categories.
This year there will be a People’s Choice award. Local folks can purchase tickets to taste and rate the entries on Saturday between 1 and 2 p.m.
Also on Saturday Kids will have a hot dog grilling contest. Imagine how much life could change if your child were an award-winning griller. Relax Mom & Dad. Junior will have lunch ready to go in just a little bit.
Although there are professionals who tour the country to compete in these types of events, know too that there are local pros who are Mainers and will participate too. Let’s cheer them on.
Due to competition rules, the food in the events can not be sold, but with that smoke and aroma wafting through the air, don’t worry there are food trucks and vendors ready to feed you when you get the urge.
If the family wants a break from the competition there is a petting zoo, bounce house, and other games, and also live music to enjoy.
Chicken, pork ribs, pork shoulder, beef brisket, it’s all there.
Follow your nose to Skowhegan Fairgrounds this weekend.
