Sebago Man Arrested For Casco Fatal Hit and Run

A Sebago man is facing charges in connection with a hit and run that killed a woman Sunday night in Casco.

The accident happened at around 6:00 on Route 302 when Lorna Nugent was crossing the two lanes of traffic. Police believe she and her boyfriend were helping out an elderly friend when she was struck and killed by a passing motorist.

There was no description of the vehicle immediately after the accident except that police believed it was a Volkswagon. An investigation and tips from the public led detectives to 28-year-old Jeffrey Smith of Sebago, who drives a Volkswagon Passat. WLBZ-2 reports damage to the front end of the vehicle was consistent with the hit and run accident.

Smith has been charged with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident Resulting in Death.
