Police arrested a Sanford man last night after he led them on a high speed chase in Lyman.

Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says 25-year-old Gregory Cote was pulled over on Beech Street in Lyman for vehicle defects. When he sped off, Trooper James MacDonald pursued him for over three miles, until the pursuit ended on South Waterboro Road.

Police say that, along the way, the SUV was swerving and braking erratically before the trooper used a 'PIT' maneuver with his cruiser to force the SUV off the road. Cote complained of a back injury but police say the hospital was unable to find anything wrong with him. He was charged with eluding a police officer and is being held at the York County Jail. Cote is also being held on several probation violation charges. Police say Cote had a suspended driver's license and admitted to the trooper that he had used methamphetamine earlier in the night.

A woman passenger in the vehicle was not injured in the incident.
