Rockland Maine Cop’s Pursuit Of The Great Crate Ends In The Drink
Watch as a member of the Rockland Police Department tries, and fails, to navigate the International Great Crate Race.
Rockland, Maine Lobster Festival's Great Crate Race is a Fan Favorite
Another Maine Lobster Festival is done, with the tents pulled down and the lobster pots cleaned and put away. But the memories will last, especially for those brave Great Crate Race competitors.

If you've never seen the race in person or watched a video, it's something you should experience. 50 wooden crates are stretched across Rockland Harbor, in full view of the festival grounds.
Rockland, Maine, Great Crate Race Takes Speed, Balance, and Endurance
People of all ages try to run across the crates and back again without capsizing. The crates are wet and wobbly, so it's a serious challenge. Kids seem to do better than adults, most of the time, and shoes or socks often make things extra challenging.
Before we get to the Rockland Detective, here's an example of what I'm talking about.
It's all about balance, endurance, and speed.
Rockland, Maine, Detective Finds the Great Crate Race Tougher Than Police Work
Detective Sergeant Max King of the Rockland Police Department decided he would try to cross the crates again this year. He's a cop, after all. Running after suspects is part of the job. Of course, the ground doesn't usually wobble and shake.
I give him credit for trying, but perhaps he should have opted for shorts and a t-shirt instead of the uniform and work shoes.
Still, he tried, to the delight of festival goers, and earned himself a new nickname. Make sure your volume is up.
By the way, Detective King tried this last year, too. Watch the video here.
In a post on the Rockland, Maine Police Department's Facebook page, King was referred to as Captain Jack Sparrow. I have a feeling that's a nickname that's going to stick.
And I wouldn't be surprised if he went looking for some rum (hot, buttered) after his surprise swim.
