Can This Maine Cop Make It All the Way Across the Great Crates?
This video of a Rockland Police Officer attempting the Great Crate Race made me laugh out loud this morning, so I had to share.
What Is a Crate Race?
I've always marveled at people who can complete the race. For anyone who's never heard of the International Great Crate Race, it's held during the Maine Lobster Festival in Rockland. A line of lobster crates are lashed together and strung from a pier to a dock, partially submerged in the water, and filled with seaweed to provide balance. Is There Any Secret to Making It Across?
The goal is to get the best time. But the challenge is just making it across. Kids who have completed the race say you should step on the front of each trap, move quickly, and keep your balance. It's a huge accomplishment to make it to the other side and I'm especially impressed by any adults who can do it. Kids are lighter and quicker, so it's probably easier for them.
How Did the Cop Do in the Race?
So I have nothing but respect for anyone who can make it across. Or...anyone who attempts it, like Detective Sergeant Max King with the Rockland Police Department. He gave it his best effort.
Truthfully, he made it farther than I would have and did it with style. Being a cop is no laughing matter, so I love it when they let their hair down and have fun in the community, even if it lands them in the drink.
