Rockland, Maine Fatal Bus Crash Investigation
According to WABI-TV, Colburn told detectives that he didn't see the student in the road.
An examination of video footage from inside the bus revealed the crossing arm wasn't out, at the time of the crash, and Colburn was leaning too far to the right to keep his eyes on the road.
The crossing arm is a retractable barrier that extends from the front of the bus. When the arm is out, it prevents students from walking too close to the bus. This ensures that students do not walk in the bus's blind spot.
Mr. Colburn is no longer employed by the school district.
Our sincerest condolences to Brayden's family, friends, classmates, and educators.
