Ready for Fall? Leaves Have Started Changing Color in Maine

While it may still technically be summer, Mainers know that when autumn comes, it comes fast and hard. And the first signs of fall are here.

The Foliage Report has released its initial update for the Northeastern United States in the 2023 season.

The Foliage Report keeps track of fall foliage changes across the United States. This report compiles data from various sources into easily digestible maps. 

Tweeting on Tuesday, they said, "The Foliage Report’s first maps for the lower 48 for the 2023 Season. Here is The Foliage Report for the Northeast as of September 11th, 2023. #FallFoliage," along with a snapshot of the New England states, as well as New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.

Most of the map is green, symbolizing "little to no color," but there are hints of autumn in western Maine, northern New York, and western Vermont, where they are reporting "low color."

Their website provides further insight: 

Report as of September 11th, 2023. Friend of The Foliage Report, Jeff Foliage, informed me that his sources tell him that a part of Maine (Rangeley to Carrabassett) is showing color in the swampy areas and this part of Maine always seems to show early. You can find out more on one of his Facebook groups.

The next update is scheduled for September 18th.

Meteorologist Ryan Munn, who keeps an eye on the skies down in Portland at WGME, couldn't contain his excitement. He shared a GIF from "The Office."
