When Does Maine ‘Spring Forward’ for Daylight Saving Time?
If we’re being honest, the days are already getting longer here in Maine, and we can expect more sunshine soon! But when, exactly?

First, doesn’t ‘Daylight Saving Time’ sound wrong? Shouldn’t it be ‘Daylight Savings Time?’ That just flows better, doesn’t it?
Alright then, moving ‘forward,’ before we go any further, we should dot our I’s and cross our T’s. What exactly is Daylight Saving Time?
According to Fox Weather, Daylight Saving Time provides an extra hour of light in the evening during the warmer months. Clocks spring forward one hour in the spring to begin Daylight Saving Time and fall back one hour in the fall to end it. That’s why we say ‘spring forward’ when we move the clocks forward and ‘fall back’ when we move them back.
So, given all of that, when can we expect to see the days noticeably getting longer here in our Pine Tree State?
First, we’ve actually already been gaining daylight since the winter solstice on December 21st. The solstice occurs when one of Earth’s poles reaches its maximum tilt away from the Sun. This happens twice a year—once in each hemisphere—which explains why days gradually become longer or shorter leading up to the peak at each solstice. From now until the summer solstice on Friday, June 20th, 2025, we’ll continue gaining sunlight and enjoying longer days.
With that covered, when exactly can we expect to observe Daylight Saving Time in Maine? And when will we lose an hour of sleep?
According to Time and Date, Daylight Saving Time starts on Sunday, March 9th, 2025. This means we need to move our clocks ahead by one hour, from 2 a.m. to 3 a.m.
So now you know—we’re preparing to ‘spring ahead,’ at least our clocks, on Sunday, March 9th, 2025, here in Maine!
