A Maine man is facing aggravated trafficking charges after police seized enough fentanyl to kill over a quarter million people.

Portland Maine Police Charge a Local Man With Aggravated Drug Trafficking

Abdirahmon A. Adbullahi, 26, of Portland is charged with aggravated trafficking in fentanyl and cocaine, and trafficking in Scheduled drugs.

The charges followed a traffic stop Wednesday afternoon of a Ford Escort on Ocean Avenue in Portland. Adbullahi, who was driving the vehicle, had been the subject of an extensive investigation into the illegal trafficking of drugs in the city.

Portland Police Seize Nearly a Pound of Fentanyl and a Quarter Pound of Cocaine Base

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says a search of the vehicle turned up approximately 72 grams of fentanyl and 63 grams of cocaine base, packaged for resale. Adbullahi was transported to the Cumberland County Jail where bail was set at $50,000 cash.

Once he was in custody, a search warrant was executed at his 48 Elmwood Street, Portland home.

Items seized in that search included:

  • Nearly one pound of fentanyl
  • More than a quarter pound of cocaine and cocaine base
  • Three firearms
  • $3,000 in suspected drug proceeds
  • Items indicative of drug processing and distribution

A lethal dose of fentanyl is 2 milligrams, so a pound of fentanyl could potentially kill roughly 227,000 people.
