Two people were found deceased in an apartment house fire in Portland on Sunday morning.

Portland, Maine, Double Fatal Apartment House Fire

The victims of the fire have been identified as 45-year-old Nicole Niehoff, and 40-year-old Jake MIillet.

The fire at 43 St. Lawrence Street in Portland was reported at approximately 2:17 a.m. on Sunday. Officials say the structure is a three-story, four-unit apartment building.

Maine Department of Public Safety Spokesperson Shannon Moss says all the units in the building were occupied when the fire broke out. Everyone was able to get out except for the two victims.

When fire crew arrived on the scene, they encountered heavy fire conditions on the rear porch of the building. As they battled the blaze, they found two people inside the building who were deceased.

Portland, Maine, Double Fatal Apartment House Fire Under Investigation

This fire is now under investigation by the State Fire Marshal's Office, in coordination with the Portland Police and Fire Departments.

Officials ask that anyone with information or video related to the incident contact the Portland Police Department at 207-874-8575, or the Maine Fire Marshal's Office at 207-626-3870.

The American Red Cross is providing assistance to the displaced tenants.
