A Pittsfield Standoff Ends with the Death of a 27-Year-old Man

A 12-hour standoff in Pittsfield on Friday ended with the shooting death of a 27-year-old man.

Police were called to a home on Detroit Road in Pittsfield at approximately 8:15 Friday morning, according to Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss. Maine State Police went to the home to assist the Pittsfield Police Department and the Somerset County Sheriff's Office with a domestic disturbance that allegedly included shots being fired. Police tried to communicate with 27-year-old Gregory Lasselle of Pittsfield, throughout the morning, and called in the Maine State Police Tactical Team and the Maine State Police Crisis Negotiation Team to assist. Route 100 in Pittsfield was closed down for hours as police dealt with the standoff.

After a 12-hour standoff, two Troopers were involved in an armed confrontation with Lassalle, which resulted in the Pittsfield man's death.

The Troopers, Corporal Paul Casey and Sergeant J.B. MacDonald, have been placed on administrative leave, as is standard procedure in all deadly force incidents involving law enforcement.

The Maine Attorney General's Office will investigate Lasselle's cause and manner of death.
