The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the most recent data show that 279,731 new breast cancers were reported by females in 2022.

From 2018 to 2022, about 2 in 3 female breast cancer cases were diagnosed before the cancer spread outside the breast. Roughly 1 in 4 cases were found after the cancer had spread to nearby lymph nodes, tissues, or organs, and 6% were diagnosed after the cancer had spread to distant parts of the body.

Registration for the 31st Annual Breast Cancer Awareness Walk will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday in the Wright Gym of Maine Central Institute, with the walk starting at 9:.45.
