Old Town police say they searched an apartment on Somerset Street after the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and discovered more than 170 Xanax pills and $920 in cash.

The South Portland man was charged with aggravated trafficking in scheduled drugs, Old Town police Capt. Lee Miller said in a Tuesday news release.

The charge was later reduced, and the man pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor.

Old Town police arranged through text messages a drug deal with the man and arrested him when he arrived at the agreed upon location, Miller said.

He was allegedly in possession of 25 Xanax pills at the time of his arrest.

Police executed the search warrant at the Somerset Street home after the man was taken into custody.

He was charged with aggravated trafficking because the apartment was in a school zone. The charge was later reduced, and the man pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor.

The Orono Police Department assisted Old Town police in executing the search warrant.
