Our service men and women who died during active duty should never be forgotten.

Hopefully we all will stop on Monday for a moment or two of reflection sometime during the day. And no matter what activities or events you and your family have planned, here’s a great way to start your Memorial Day.

The 5th annual Memorial Day 5K Run/Walk , A Run To Remember, hosted by the Old Town – Orono YMCA is back. A great event you can do as a family, as a team, or solo. The cost of entry is $15 for a family, $10 adults and $8 for youth, if you pre register now. You can pre register at the YMCA front desk, by calling 827-9622 or by registering on line here.

If you wait until Monday, Race Day Registration is $20 a family, $15 for an adult and $10 for Youth.

The Race begins and ends at Old Town – Orono YMCA, 472 Stillwater Ave, Old Town. Race Heat Start Times, with 20 runners maximum per heat are 9 a.m., 9:10 a.m., 9:20 a.m.

All proceeds will benefit the Y’’s Scholarships for Veterans.

Shawn Fournier, Membership and Marketing Director at the Old Town – Orono Y  says:

“We have an open door scholarship program for low or fixed income people to help reduce fees, and our policy is we don’t want to ever turn anyone away based on ability to pay, so this event will help Veterans in that situation”
