Officials say two people were able to escape safely from a fire at their home on the Main Road in Hampden.

When crews from several towns arrived at the home on Main Road South, at around 9:30 Monday night, smoke and flames were already coming from the garage area. Fire officials told WABI-TV that it appears it started in the garage. It traveled into the attic space, initially making it difficult to fight. But once they got access to the flames, it was knocked down pretty quickly.

The State Fire Marshal's Office will now work to determine what sparked the blaze.
