The new-to-the-area company plans on serving over 32,000 Bangor area households, and will deliver groceries to their doorstep in as little as one hour.

Beginning Thursday, April 19, Instacart, in which a press release claims is "a fast- growing retail delivery service", will employ local people, and have them hand-pick and then deliver items from our local BJ's Wholesale Club, Shaw's, and Petco, directly to the customer's doorstep in a little as an hour. Petco service will begin April 26, according to the news release.

The company has already been operating in the Portland market.

Our local service areas will include: Bangor, Brewer, Old Town, Levant, Kenduskeag and Orono.

Instacart plans on employing more than 100 local people in the area to be the "shoppers."

Customers can register and download the app at Instacart.com.  They then would select the city and store, add items to a virtual cart, and then select when they'd like the items delivered.

The cost for an order of $35 or more is $5.99. After a free trial period, the company offers an Instacart Express Membership for $14.99 per month, or $149 per year.
