Next time you renew your driver's license or identification card you'll be seeing a new design.

Secretary of State, Matthew Dunlap, has unveiled a new design for Maine's driver's licenses and ID cards and has everything you would expect to see on your Maine card.

The new design features an outline of the state with two State of Maine symbols including the state tree and flower, the white pine cone and tassel and the state bird, the black-capped chickadee.

You'll also see some iconic scenery from around the state that renders the fields in Aroostook with a potato field and barn, the coastline with a lighthouse and sailboat and lastly, a rugged mountain with a sunrise.

Dunlap states it was a thought out design to provide imagery that speaks to the many walks of life of Maine:

“Our staff has worked diligently to create a design that elegantly incorporates a variety of images that speak to the Maine experience, while also improving the security of these important identity documents."

The new design does include features that make the IDs difficult for reproduction that make creating fake cards more difficult while helping those that need to see ID the ability to spot the false IDs.

New designs will be phased in upon renewal starting this spring.
