A Brewer man was seriously hurt when his motorcycle collided with an SUV on Route 1A in Holden on Friday.

The accident occurred when the SUV pulled out in front of the motorcycle near G&M Market, Holden police Officer Ed Benjamin told the Bangor Daily News.

The SUV was turning left onto Route 1A from Upper Dedham Road when it collided with the motorcyclist, who was headed toward Ellsworth.

Police say the victim is from Brewer, but his name is being withheld pending family notification.

He was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor with serious injuries.

The driver of the SUV was not hurt.

The accident, which occurred just before 2:30 p.m., caused significant delays for drivers headed in both directions. As of 5:30 p.m. on Friday, major delays were still being reported.

The accident is under investigation.
