A mother and her unborn child were killed in a snowmobile accident in Greenwood on Saturday.

Maine Warden Service Corporal John MacDonald says 30-year-old Elizabeth Abelson of Gloucester, Massachusetts was snowmobiling with her husband when the accident happened on a trail near Irish Neighborhood Road. Just after 11:00 Saturday morning, Elizabeth was operating the couple's new Ski-Doo Grand Touring snowmobile, when she lost control of the sled and was ejected, striking some trees. She and and unborn child, who was due in early March, were pronounced dead at Stephens Memorial Hospital in Norway. Wardens say Ableson was wearing a helmet.

Assisting Wardens at the scene were members of the Bethel and Greenwood Fire Departments, PACE Ambulance, and the Oxford County Sheriff's Office.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
