Missing Maine Woman Found Dead, Boyfriend Accused of Killing Her
Remains found in the woods of Aroostook County have been identified as a missing woman from Monticello. Now her boyfriend is charged with murder.
Who Was Arrested?
Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says Jayme Schnackenberg, 39, of Monticello was arrested by Maine State Police just before 4:00 Monday morning at his School Street home. He's been charged with murder for the death of his girlfriend, Kimberly Hardy, 42, of Monticello. Schnackenberg and Hardy lived together at the residence where he was taken into custody.
How Long Has Ms. Hardy Been Missing?
Hardy was reported missing on June 18th by her mother, who expressed concern for her daughter's safety and told authorities that Kimberly had not been seen or heard from since Friday, June 16th. Members of the Maine State Police and Maine Warden Service have been searching for Hardy ever since.
Where Was She Found?
On Sunday, the investigation into her disappearance led police to a wooded area of the Harvey Siding Road where a body was discovered by Maine Game Wardens. An autopsy will be performed at the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Augusta to determine cause of death and confirm her identity but officials are confident that it's Kimberly. Moss says law enforcement officials will continue to investigate this case at 'several scenes.'
Schnackenberg is expected to make his first court appearance on Monday morning.
