You know, we can all battle about climate change and all that kind of stuff, but there's one thing you can basically never argue with.... Saving money. Thanks to the installation of a new solar array at MDI High School, they're about to save some major cash, to the tune of $40,000 a year.

What started as a student's contribution to a senior exhibition in 2017, has blossomed into a project that school has been working on ever since. They've installed the largest array in a high school in Maine, covering almost the entirety of their roof. And over the course of the next 25 years, they're on track to save over a million dollars, according to WABI - TV5.

This obviously won't work for every school. there are plenty that wouldn't get the kind of sunlight needed to generate enough power to heat and light the whole school, but it seems an ongoing program like this could save schools around the state a ton of money. Could that really be a bad thing?

I'd love to install them at my house, and I know my wife would love it even more than me. Maybe someday. But it's nice to see some kids brainstorming great ideas for themselves, and future students. It'll be the gift that keeps on giving.
