A Massachusetts man has died in a single-vehicle crash on I-95 in Pittsfield.

Who Died in the Crash?

Police say 21-year-old Ralph Derosiers of Wilmington, Massachusetts died as the result of a crash on Friday afternoon. He was alone in the vehicle.

Maine Department of Public Safety spokesperson Shannon Moss says State Police began receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash just before 4:00. Emergency crews responded to I-95 northbound in Pittsfield, near mile marker 145, and found a Gray Nissan Sentra in the median.

How Did It Happen?

An investigation of the circumstances of the crash revealed that the car was traveling north in the right lane when Derosier appears to have lost control and traveled off the left side of the roadway. The vehicle stopped when it crashed into a large tree in the median. Police say Derosier succumbed to injuries he sustained in the crash.

Maine State Police say excessive speed may have been a factor in the crash, but the investigation is ongoing. As Troopers worked to clear the scene, northbound traffic was reduced to one lane for approximately 2 hours.

Who Do I Contact If I Saw the Vehicle On the Road?

Anyone who witnessed the crash or thinks they may have seen the Gray Nissan Sentra with Massachusetts plates as it was driving on the interstate prior to the crash, is asked to contact Trooper Tyler Maloon or Sergeant Peter Michaud from the Maine State Police Troop C at 207-624-7076.
