Maine Summer Beach Fun with Surfer & Bird Pics at Reid State Park
With another snow/rainstorm in the forecast for the weekend, it seems like a good time to visit the beach through some summertime pictures.
I love looking at warm pictures and videos when the winter weather is getting me down. I used to watch live beach cams from Hawaii but, as beautiful as it is there, it also makes me sad to think that I may never get to visit those golden shores. So these days, I try to take a more logical approach and look through all the pictures I've taken over several years of visits to Reid State Park in southern Maine.
It has to start with the beach, itself. I still remember the first time I walked onto the sand barefoot. It was such a hot day that I actually blistered the bottoms of my feet. Now I never walk onto the beach without sandals. Once I know that the sand is manageable, I'll take them off.
I've always loved this photo (below) with the waves and bathing suits, which reminds me of a postcard. I imagine the words 'Welcome to Maine' across the top with space on the back for visitors to tell the family back home how much they're loving Vacationland.
Did you know there are surfers in Maine? I had no idea until my husband, who grew up surfing on the New Jersey shore, told me that the southern Maine beaches are popular. We went to Reid State Park and, sure enough, saw some folks on their boards. Cold water? No problem. They just put on the wetsuits and ride the waves.
I'm especially fond of beach birds, especially these little guys. It's so entertaining to watch them run away from the incoming wave and then rush back to eat all the goodies left behind before running away from the wave again.
I hope you've enjoyed this trip to the beach. Warm weather will be here before we know it. In the meantime, feel free to stop by from time to time, so you can imagine the warm sun and roaring waves. I feel better already.
