If They Change The State of Maine Flag, What Would You Like?
With all that is going on is it time to change the official flag for the state of Maine?
This one.
Some things are not meant to be changed, but our state flag can’t be in that category because it was changed over a hundred years ago.
And there's the Bicentennial flag too.
Folks who are wanting the flag to change probably just want something more current, something more relatable.
And as wiser people have said
We can always listen, it doesn’t mean we are going to agree to do what you say.
There was a nationwide survey asking people what should be included on their state flags.
The responses were, well pretty un-flag-like.
Kansas said they’d like The Wizard of Oz on their flag.
Delaware thought their state flag should feature something to do with their zero percent state and local sales tax. Gee what would that look like? You would have to spell it out. T-a-x F-r-e-e.
And there are other obvious choices around the U.S. New Yorkers wanted the Statute of Liberty on the flag, Pennsylvanians voted for the Liberty Bell.
How about Maine?
Two-thirds of us said lighthouses should be on our state flag. After all, we have the 3rd most miles of coastline.
There are 60 lighthouses to choose from in Maine.
One-third of those polled in our state suggested Maine lobster should be on the flag.
Three percent of people picked toothpicks. Seriously. I guess because we were once known as the "toothpick capital."
Two percent want a Stephen King reference on the flag. How about Stephen King with a toothpick in his mouth?
What if we took the current flag, and photoshopped in the pine tree and the star from the 1901 flag, and did a collage of a lighthouse, a lobster, a toothpick and Stephen King. And while we are at it, get a blueberry on there too.
And potholes.
Let your mind go wild and come up with something. Maybe Augusta will put it up the flag pole and salute it.
