A shelter-in-place order in Windham has been lifted and the suspect in a fatal shooting located.

Maine State Police Say the Victim in a Windham Shooting is Deceased

Maine officials have not released any names of the two people involved in this case.

They did confirm that a male victim was deceased and that a suspect has been located.

The police would not confirm whether or not the suspect is alive.

UPDATE: The victim has been identified as Erin Hayne, 33, of Casco. The shooter has been identified as James Ford, 48, of Windham. Officials say Ford pulled his vehicle up beside Hayne's motorcycle and shot him multiple times.

There's no indication the two men knew each other previously.

Maine Residents Received an Alert on Their Cellphones About a Shooter-At Large

Mainers received an alert on their phones Friday afternoon that reported a shooter-at-large in North Windham, urging residents to shelter in place. Maine State Police later said during a media conference that the alert was mistakenly sent out statewide.

That shelter-in-place order has been lifted.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the suspect's vehicle was found at a Dunkin in Raymond shortly after the incident.

Maine Police Say More Details on the Windham Shooting Will Be Forthcoming

UPDATE: Police say the victim, Erin Hayne, died at the scene, despite life-saving efforts by witnesses, including a Game Warden.

Ford's body was found sometime later. Officials say he died of a single self-inflicted gunshot wound.
