
Several Maine Schools are Closed Today Due to Hoax Threats
Once again, hoax threats have prompted some Maine schools to cancel classes on Monday.
Maine Schools Targeted Again by Online Hoax Threats
The Hancock County Sheriff's Office responded to a threatening call made to George Stevens Academy in Blue Hill on Monday morning. The contents of that message were not made public.

As a precaution, administrators closed the school and dismissed the students for the day.
Maine Authorities Say School Threats are Part of a Nationwide Hoax
Investigators looked into the source of the threat and determined that the call was consistent with a nationwide hoax involving computer-generated messages.
Schools in several other Maine communities were also closed Monday, according to WABI-TV, including MSAD 75.

Topsham officials said on Facebook that these types of threats are typically hoaxes. The scope and volume of messages received on Monday, however, across several buildings created an environment of insecurity.
Maine Schools Receive Hoax Threats for the Second Time in Less Than a Month
This is the second time in recent weeks that a computer-generated hoax has shut down Maine schools.
On January 21, 2026, a different hoax call prompted lockdowns in schools, including Old Town Elementary, as well as schools in Houlton and Milford.
While it's believed the threats are part of a national trend, local officials say they take all threats seriously and place the safety of students and staff above all else.
