Some of us grew up on farms, some of us grew up in towns surrounded by farms and some of us visited farms for the summer. I'm sure any true Mainer realizes how important farms are for not just us, but for the whole world.

And there are many different types of farms. From a farmer with a couple of cows, maybe a dozen chickens and a pig or two to a farmer that has acres and acres and acres of potatoes for example.

This weekend on Sunday we celebrate all farmers.

Maine open farm day is a yearly event always held on the 4th Sunday in July. Time flies, yes, it is already the 4th Sunday in July. And this event has been going on for more than 30 years.

Maine open farm day provides a unique chance to see all sorts of farming experiences in one day. Most participating farms are open from 10:00 AM until 3:00 PM this Sunday, but some have different hours, and you can get info about each participating farm here.

This is a free event. There is no fee or registration but thankfully many sell farm products to the visitors.

You have questions about agriculture life? The farm your visit will be happy to answer your questions.

And you can plan what type of farms you want to visit and experience on Real Maine’s website.

Your idea of a farm tour might be an Ice Cream Trail. You can find the farms featuring milk and cream from Maine Dairies and only visit those with dairy products.

You can plan your visit depending on what you want to see. Animals, Crops, Gardens.

You pick who you want to visit, however you would like.

But this Sunday is a good day to bring out the farmer in all of us, and visit them, thank them, talk with them, and purchase something too.
