A Southern Maine municipal worker died after being run over by the truck he'd just been operating.

It was a tragic end to a holiday chore, when a Sanford city employee was run over by his own work truck, while hanging wreaths. According to the Portland Press Herald, the accident happened at about 1:30 Monday afternoon, in front of the Springvale District Court. The man and another worker had been hanging Christmas wreaths on utility poles, outside the courthouse, when the man got out of the truck and, for some reason, it backed over him. Officials say the other worker was in the bucket, at the time, and wasn't hurt.

The accident remains under investigation.

We'll update this story as more details become available.
