A Milford man who hit his girlfriend in the head with a hammer in Alton after kidnapping her has pleaded guilty to multiple charges.

Djvan Carter, 47, was found guilty of aggravated attempted murder, elevated aggravated assault, domestic violence aggravated assault, and kidnapping. He's now awaiting sentencing.
Maine State Police Say the Suspect's Sister Alerted Them Of Her Brother's Assault
The charges stem from an incident in May 2023, when Maine State Police received a call from Carter's sister. She told them her brother had just allegedly attacked a woman and took off in a car. Before calling the police, the woman had notified the mother of Carter's two children to warn her.

Trooper Tried to Halt the Attack But Carter Allegedly Tried to Hit Him With the Car
Police tracked the vehicle to the Argyle Road in Alton where Carter was allegedly beating a female passenger with a hammer. A State Police Trooper ordered Carter out of the car, but he reportedly drove his vehicle at the Trooper and was shot and wounded. According to the BDN, ADA Lynds said Carter allegedly told the victim he was going to kill her and then let the police kill him. WABI-TV reports that during the trial it was alleged that Carter's methamphetamine use had made him paranoid and that he attacked her because he thought she was cheating on him. Carter allegedly has a history of domestic violence and shot a police officer in 2023.
