One person is dead and two others injured as the result of three separate fires in Maine communities on Monday, December 9, 2025.
Maine State Fire Marshal Investigates a Fatal Fire in Windsor
In Windsor, Lorraine, Knox, 77, is believed to have died in a fire at her home. Remains found at the scene have been taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner to confirm identity and determine cause of death.
Crews responded to the scene just before 6 p.m. on Monday, at 489 Ridge Road in Windsor, and found the deceased female in the buildling.

Officials say Knox had been experiencing furnace issues and was using electric heaters to warm her home.
Maine State Fire Marshal Investigates a Shelter Fire That Sent 1 to the Hospital
It was approximately 11:39 p.m. on Monday when the South Berwick Fire Department responded to a fire at 34 Boatyard Lane.
When crews arrived, they found that a makeshift shelter, made of lumber and tarps, had been completely destroyed in the fire.
78-year-old Steven Goodall had been living in the shelter and suffered second-degree burns. He was transported to a Massachusetts hospital in serious but stable condition.

Officials say, despite his injuries, Goodall drove about a mile to Cumberland Farms and called for help.
The Fire Marshal's Office found a small portable propane heater and two spent propane cylinders near the area of origin.
Maine Fire Marshal's Office Investigates a Fire at a Fort Fairfield Apartment House
The Fort Fairfield Fire Department responded to a fire at a three-unit apartment building at 46 Fort Hill Street at approximately 8:14 a.m.
Two of three male tenants were able to exit the building safely.
A third tenant noticed smoke and flames blocking the exit from his apartment. He escaped by breaking a window, climbing into the roof, and sliding down to the ground, sustaining injuries to his legs.
The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating all three fires.
