State police have charged a man from Jackson with raping a young girl.

Paul Andrews, 33, was arrested on a charge of gross sexual assault at his home on Boslee Drive, according to a Thursday press release from Maine Department of Public Safety spokesman Stephen McCausland.

Detectives said the assaults took place over a two-year period, and the victim is a girl under the age of 10, McCausland said.

A team of detectives and troopers went to Andrews' home Tuesday night to arrest him after consulting with the district attorney's office.

He is being held at the Two Bridges Jail in Wiscasset on $50,000 bail.
