What Do You Do With That Empty Bag Your Postal Carrier Delivered This Week? Fill It, And Help Stamp Out Hunger In Maine!
Did you happen to find an informational flyer or bright plastic bag in your mail recently?
Don't throw that away; Fill it with food instead!
On the second Saturday in May, each and every year, mail carriers across the nation take part in the "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign.
According to the USPS website, the organization has been doing this for almost 30 years now, and have collected more than 1 BILLION pounds of food for families in need in that time.
Letter carriers in more than 10,000 cities and towns across America, from nearly 1,500 branches in 50 states take part in the food drive, and according to those in the know, the "Stamp Out Hunger" campaign is the largest one-day food drive in the nation!
You can easily be a part of doing good in your neighborhood by bagging up some non-perishable items and leaving them out for your mail carrier to collect this Saturday.
"The carrier will do the rest. The food is sorted, and delivered to an area food bank or pantry, where it is available for needy families...Carriers collect non-perishable food donations left by mailboxes and in post offices and deliver them to local community food banks, pantries, and shelters. "
You can find out more information on this year's Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive at the National Association Of Letter Carriers website, or by following them on Facebook.
