Greater Bangor Bark for Life

Dog lovers, and their pooches, are encouraged to come out and join Craig Colson and me for the Greater Bangor Bark for Life on Saturday.

I've attended (and co-hosted) this event for several years, and it's such a fun afternoon for dog lovers! Inside the track at Bangor Raceway, many vendors are set up that cater to dogs. You'll find everything from leashes and collars, to information on doggy daycare, to trainers that can help you keep your pooch well-mannered. There will be food for the humans and plenty of fun for the pups, including contests, like the doggy costume contest, loudest bark, and even a doggy-owner look-alike contest.  And, of course, lots of dogs! My favorite part of the event is just walking around, saying hi to all the dogs and giving them some attention.

The entire event is only two hours long, from 4 to 6 p.m., so the pups don't get too bored or too stressed. It's like a Relay for Life-type event, but without the continuous walking. There are several individual laps around the track during those two hours, for cancer survivors, caregivers, etc. Then, at the end of the afternoon, everyone takes to the track at Bangor Raceway and does one lap together, with luminaria lighting the way. All the money raised goes to the American Cancer Society to help local (human) cancer patients.

Walk-ups will be welcome tomorrow, starting at 3:30, at the Hollywood Casino Raceway, behind the Cross Insurance Center. I hope to see you there!
