Today is National Giving Tuesday.  We’ve had Thanksgiving of course, Black Friday, Plaid Friday, Shop Local Saturday, Cyber Monday and now Giving Tuesday.

It seems we sure don’t have to look far to find someone that is in need, or if not in need could use a little boost every once in awhile to smooth out the rough times.

So maybe today is the day to stop for a couple moments of reflection and find someone, or some program to assist for Giving Tuesday.

Christmas is less than a month away and we know there is always a need when it comes to those less fortunate.  They might be able to handle the month to month by shifting things around to somehow eke it all out, but Christmas might be another situation all together.

There are many programs out there that help children and families this time of the year.

Hope you will find one to be a part of. Especially if you believe it is better to give than receive.

The United States Postal Service, USPS, has a program nation-wide that began yesterday. The program is called Operation Santa. Letters are written by those less fortunate and you adopt a letter, buy the gift they are suggesting and ship it before December 19th at your local participating post office.

The gifts arrive via the mail to the child’s home ‘From Santa’

Reading those letters from kids who won’t have much of a holiday without the generosity of community is touching. And sometimes what they want is something for a sibling or a parent who are trying their best and still struggling.

Sorry about the tears on the package.

Here is how to get enrolled in the program. Sign up before December 19th. For security reasons all prospective adopters must register to create an account.
