Just in time for a (fingers crossed) 60-degree day in Bangor, it looks like Giffords has sent out the call that a few of their stands will be opened this Friday, March 18.

A local seasonal favorite

Every year Mainers look forward to the opening of ice cream stands as a sign of warmer weather to come. One of the quintessential ice cream stands that the Bangor area looks to for this hope of warmer days is the Giffords Ice Cream Stand located at 1109 Broadway.

A 10% discount is offered to military, first responders, police and fire personnel, senior citizens 62+, and college students.

A few stands to open, a few yet to start the season

The infamous Maine ice cream brand states that they will open three of their locations this Friday, including the Outer Broadway Bangor ice cream stand as well as the Waterville and Farmington locations. Skowhegan and Auburn are still on hold for the start of the season.

What's on the menu?

It looks like new flavors are coming to the ice cream stands, including:

  • the Blue Monstah Cookie: a blue vanilla ice cream with peanut butter, chocolate chips, cookie dough, and mini M&Ms.
  • Cone-y Pretzel Whirl: chocolate-coated waffle cone pieces and a pretzel ripple jass up vanilla ice cream.
  • Maine Black Fly (AKA the vanilla strawberry ripple chip) Strawberry ripple in vanilla ice cream with mini chocolate chips.

A few flavors are coming soon but you can check out the full menu at the ice cream stands at the Gifford, which includes dozens and dozens of ice cream types.

We are all looking forward to warmer days and what better way to welcome in the changing seasons than with ice cream!  Spoons at the ready!
