A Gardiner man is accused of burning a camper trailer that belonged to his former boss, in an attempt to cover up an alleged theft.

Department of Public Safety spokesman Steve McCausland says the State Fire Marshal's Office has charged 35-year-old Joseph Manganella with two counts of arson. He was arrested Friday evening at his home on Water Street and spent the weekend at the Kennebec County Jail.

Officials say the July 5th fire destroyed the camper trailer of Eric and Kristie Baker, which was located on a house lot off Blueberry Hill Lane. The couple lived there with their three children, but were not at home when the fire broke out. Investigators say the fire likely was to cover up the theft of tools from the residence.

Manganella once worked for Baker as a roofer. He's being held in lieu of $50,000 bail and is expected in court today or Tuesday.
