15,000+ Mainers are Still Without Electricity as the Weekend Nears

Utility crews are out in force Friday, trying to repair the lines and clear downed trees for over 15,000 customers.

Maine Rain and Wind Storm Knocks Out Power for Thousands of Maine Households

It was a quick storm, for most people, dumping heavy rain and producing some very strong winds.

The rain, wind, and lightning, however, caused trees to fall and, often, took power lines and/or poles down, knocking out electricity to thousands of Maine households.

For many, that power came back on before residents climbed into bed.

But for over 15,000 others, including me, it was still out when we woke up. My morning coffee came from McDonald's. (and it was delicious!)

As of 11:16 on Friday, July 17, 2026:

• Versant Power reported 4,501 households still without power
• Central Maine Power had 11,496 households without electricity.

Those numbers will go down as the day passes.

Maine Utility Crews are Working to Restore Power After July Rainstorm

Tree crews are out, cleaning up the downed trees and branches, with utility crews right behind them, ready to restore the poles and lines.

But that can take some time, so residents are asked to be patient.

And don't panic if your electricity suddenly goes out again, even after it's been restored.

Sometimes those workers have to turn off the power to a section of the grid so they can make repairs, and then restore it for a larger area.

The good news is that it's not 32 degrees outside, and we don't have to worry about our pipes freezing.
