Holiday Tomorrow and The Full Moon is Right on Time

There is a full moon tonight. And a very important holiday tomorrow. When as a country we get to set aside our differences and focus on our similarities, and truly celebrate Independence Day. Happy Birthday America.

First though, the first of four supermoons this summer. The Full Buck Moon tonight.

A supermoon is 30% brighter than a regular full moon. And that is what we will have tonight and for the foreseeable future.

The reason a supermoon is brighter is because it is closer to earth than it normally is. 224,895 miles away in comparison to the average distance of approximately 238,000 miles.

July’s Full Buck Moon will rise at 7:10 tonight and set at 4:33 the morning of the 4th of July.

We will get 2 full supermoons in August. The 1st and the 30th. Then another one in Late September.

Why is July’s Full Moon called a Buck Moon?

The full moon tonight is called the Buck Moon because it is the time of year when all bucks’ horns are fully grown. It refers to the new antlers that are growing rapidly on male deer around this time. The Algonquin Native Americans in the Northeast U.S. were the originators of the July full Moon being a Buck Moon.

Enjoy tonight. And really enjoy tomorrow. No matter the plans, hopefully there is a few minutes for personal reflection on what Independence Day means. Look around the world and think how fortunate we are to be Americans and keep that smile on your face all day.
