Governor Janet Mills has ordered flags to be flown at half-staff this week, in remembrance of the victims of two mass shootings.

At least 29 people lost their lives, with many more wounded, in mass shooting events in El Paso, Texas and Dayton, Ohio. Governor Mills has ordered Maine and United States flags lowered to half-staff immediately, in accordance with a directive from President Donald Trump.

"On behalf of the people of Maine, and with love and sorrow for our nation, we stand with the victims and their families, "Mills said in a media release, "with the brave first responders who saved so many lives, and with the communities of El Paso and Dayton during this difficult time."

Flags will remain lowered until sunset on Thursday, August 8th.
