A fire in a pellet mill in the town of Athens has shut down operations temporarily.

The fire was reported just after 2:00 Monday morning from Maine Woods Pellet Company. Athens' Fire Chief told WABI-TV that it started in a tube that feeds the hopper on the second floor. Dust from the pellets ignited, which then caused an explosion large enough to blow out five of the walls near the elevator.

No one was hurt in the incident. The Chief says the mill could be closed for up to a week while repairs are made.
