Ellsworth’s Police Chief On Indefinite Leave During Investigation
Ellsworth Police Chief Glenn Moshier has been placed on indefinite leave.
How Long Has He Worked For the City?
Moshier has been filling dual roles in the city for several years. He took over as Police Chief in 2017, when former Chief Harold Bickmore resigned suddenly. And he's also the City Manager, a post he's held since 2020 when David Cole resigned. Because of his many duties with the city, the police department's day-to-day operations have been overseen by Deputy Chief Troy Bires.
Why Was He Placed On Leave?
Now, Moshier has told the BDN that he was placed on indefinite leave from his duties as Police Chief on December 27th, 2023 while an internal investigation is conducted. He's not able to provide any additional information about the reason for the investigation, but says his leave will last until that inquiry is completed.
Wasn't He Planning to Leave the City Manager's Job?
There have been some concerns raised by residents about the fact that Moshier held both positions. Some people feel that those two departments should be separate and led by different people. Moshier responded by saying that he would step down as City Manager as soon as a replacement could be found, and would then work solely as the Chief of Police.
